Pit and Fissure Sealant

The California Pit and Fissure Sealant Course is a mandatory training program designed for dental assistants and dental professionals.

NEW LAW IN CALIFORNIA:  As of January 01, 2025, A Pit and Fissure Sealant Certification will a mandatory requirement to apply to become a Registered Dental Assistant.

Course Summary

 PIT AND FISSURE SEALANT COURSE 

Triumph University is an approved provider for Pit and Fissure Sealant Course. The Dental Board of California has issued approval of this course.
Course Number (PF-177).

This course is designed to provide dental assisting students with comprehensive knowledge and hands-on skills related to the application of pit and fissure sealants. Students will explore the science behind dental sealants, including their composition, function, and clinical importance in preventive dentistry.  The course emphasizes proper technique for applying sealants to occlusal surfaces, patient selection criteria, and maintenance for long-term protection against dental caries.  As of January 01, 2025, California will require this course to apply for the RDA.  This course is an approved course by the California Dental Board.
 
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:  
•Understand the role of pit and fissure sealants in preventive dental care.  
•Identify the types of sealant materials, including resin-based and glass ionomer sealants, and their appropriate clinical uses.  
•Demonstrate proper isolation, preparation, and placement techniques for pit and fissure sealants.  
•Learn the criteria for selecting patients suitable for sealant application based on caries risk assessment.  
•Understand the steps to evaluate the integrity of sealants and recognize when reapplication is needed.  
•Apply infection control measures during the sealant application process.  
•Discuss the benefits and limitations of sealants to the patients as part of a comprehensive oral health care plan.  

PREREQUISITES:
•California 8-Hour Infection Control Certification
•California Dental Practice Act Certification
•California Radiation Safety Certification
•California Coronal Polishing Certificate
•Current CPR for the Healthcare Provider (AHA or ARC)  

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:  
•This course is ideal for dental assisting students applying to become a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA).  

NEW LAW:
•As of January 1, 2025, In California, A Pit and Fissure Sealant Certificate will be required to apply to become a RDA.
